Zoo Trail Phase 1
This ½-mile trail would connect David C Francis Street to E Washington Street via an abandoned rail bed that runs behind the Greenville Zoo. The 12-foot asphalt trail would be similar to the Swamp Rabbit Trail and would likely be branded as the Zoo Trail Spur, with zoo-related art and iconography. A long-term goal is to create a pedestrian entrance to the zoo from the trail.
The project would also include a natural surface trail that would tie the Zoo Trail Spur into Cleveland Park, near the parking area at the intersection of Cleveland Park Drive and Lakehurst Street. This secondary trail would be approximately 1,000 feet long and 8 feet wide.
