As students return to school on August 21st, the Greenville Police Department reminds motorists and pedestrians of safe transportation practices and to observe applicable laws near school zones. To help ensure that kids arrive to and from school safely it is essential that motorists and pedestrians alike adhere to rules of the road.
Drivers are reminded to pay close attention to crossing guards and to obey their instructions. With a couple weeks of no active school zones, drivers should make a conscious effort to watch for them. It is imperative to always allow for extra time during your commute.
The speed limit for all of the school zones in Greenville are 25 mph and are clearly marked with flashing lights. Members of our Selective Enforcement Unit will be out in the morning and afternoon monitoring different school zones. Our objective will be to ensure everyone gets to and from school in a safe manner.
Another thing to be mindful of is that school buses will be back out on the roads, dropping and picking up students. It is imperative to stop and wait for a stopped school bus that is loading and unloading.
Traffic safety and the safety of our children are always a priority for police everywhere, especially at this time of the year.
