At 10:02 PM we received three 911 calls in reference to shots fired in the Nicholtown area. Simultaneously, there were officers in the area that reported hearing several shots fired and began looking for the source.
One of the 911 calls received was from the victim’s family that advised us that they had located the deceased on the Sliding Rock Creek Trail. The deceased sustained several gunshot wounds and he was pronounced deceased by Greenville County EMS.
Detectives were called to the scene and the crime scene was secured. A canvass of the neighborhood was also started which included door to door interviews to see if anyone had seen anything or had any pertinent information about the incident. Detectives continued this practice on into today to attempt to speak with everyone in the complex. The Greenville County Forensics Unit responded as well to process the scene and collect potential evidence.
At this time, with the information that we have, we do not think that there is any threat to public safety or to believe that this was a random act of violence. The Sliding Rock Creek Trail is located near Clark Street and is a little over a half of a mile from the Swamp Rabbit Trail.
Anyone with information related to this case is asked to call Greenville Crime Stoppers at 864-23-CRIME (27463) or the Greenville Police Department.
