[ARCHIVED] Augusta Street Road Diet Begins Monday, March 21

Work on the Augusta Street road diet project is scheduled to begin on Monday evening, March 21.

The project involves restriping the section of Augusta Street between Augusta Place and Crystal Avenue to create three vehicle lanes instead of four, with one travel lane in each direction and a center turn lane. The center turn lane will allows vehicles to make left turns without blocking traffic.

The work will take place between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. and lane closures will be required. Drivers traveling in this vicinity are asked to use caution and to watch out for workers. The project is expected to take 5 to 7 nights to complete.

The road diet solution, implemented along the residential section of Augusta inside the city limits, follows a three-month study of pedestrian, bicycle and traffic safety conducted by the city and two consulting firms that specializing in urban planning and mobility. The work included a traffic audit, neighborhood meetings and public engagement surveys to gather data about possible solutions.
