[ARCHIVED] Woman Arrested for Human Trafficking

Veronica Perdomo

GREENVILLE (SC).  In late 2016, the Greenville Police Department joined the Department of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Task Force by assigning a detective to investigate crimes related to federal and state human trafficking laws.  In early 2017, in conjunction with HSI, the assigned detective began receiving tips about possible victims of human trafficking. A subsequent investigation quickly led investigators to Veronica Perdomo. The investigation revealed that the crimes began in March 2014 and continued to 2017.

Investigators determined that Perdomo was representing herself to different individuals as an attorney and agent of Homeland Security who worked directly with immigration officials and could help them with their legal status and provide them with legal documents in exchange for money. It was later discovered that Perdomo, who was introduced to her victims by word of mouth, extorted more than $20,000 from 12 victims through her fraudulent representation.

Perdomo is currently being held in the Greenville County Detention Center on no bond and is charged with the following offenses:

Trafficking - 12 Counts

Blackmail or Extortion - 7 Counts

Obtaining Signature or Property under False Pretenses - 12 Counts

Fraudulently Impersonating an Officer to Secure Property - 1 Count

Anyone who thinks that they many have been victimized by Veronica Perdomo is asked to call the Greenville Police Department at 864-271-5333.
